Welcome Executive Director Kate Forrer!
|Hello VWA community,
I am so thrilled to be joining the VWA community as your next Executive Director!
For many of you, I am not a new face. I come to VWA from a long career in forestry outreach and education at UVM Extension. During my tenure there, I had the opportunity to partner with VWA on many projects to meet the needs of Vermont’s forestry community. The passion and dedication of the Board and membership has always been an inspiration! VWA epitomizes the definition of community, and I am so excited to now be at the center of it!
I am humbled to be following in the footsteps of Kathleen Wanner. I have learned so much from her as a friend, colleague, and mentor. She has always been a strong advocate for forests in Vermont, bringing integrity and passion to her work every day. I am grateful to have had her steadfast support in this transition and acknowledge that she has left me with some big boots to fill!
My passion for this work comes from both a professional and personal place. In 2021, my husband, Gabe, and I became stewards of 130 acres in Tunbridge. One of my greatest joys is exploring the woods with our three children, William (13), Anna (11), Iris (8), and our dog, Huckleberry. Most days, we can be found in the woods, walking, looking for tracks, and pulling invasives! As a woodland owner, I understand firsthand the many rewards and challenges of caring for the land.
I hope to have the opportunity to get to know you – our members, friends and donors, the lifeblood of this organization. If you haven’t signed up yet for our Annual Meeting on October 29, please consider joining us! Click here to register. It will be a great chance for us to get to know each other.
Don’t wait for the Annual Meeting – I’d love to hear from you anytime! Please be in touch via email.
Thank you for your passion for Vermont’s forests and for your continued support of the Vermont Woodlands Association. I look forward to stewarding this organization into its next chapter with you!
