Invasive Earthworms and their Effect on Forest Soils and Vegetation

January 11, 2022
12-1 PM
Invasive earthworms have probably been in Vermont for a few centuries. The early earthworm invaders were from Europe, but now new Asian species form a second wave of invasions. This webinar by Professor Josef Gorres, will look at what we know about earthworm invasions, their effect on forest soils and the subsequent ecological cascade. Information about soil and vegetation damage will be reviewed. In addition, a simple tool to assess earthworm damage to the forest floor will be introduced. A brief overview of potential management options will be given. The webinar is intended for foresters, and is approved for 1 CE credit with the Society of American Foresters (SAF). Registrants will receive a link to a recording of the webinar.
