Lars Lund (Vermont Department of Forest, Parks, and Recreation) has been monitoring Smokey House Center maple trees in a multi-year survey as part of the North American Maple Project (NAMP). Join Lars in an informative and interactive program exploring sugar maple health through demonstration of survey methods and equipment used on the NAMP survey and other forest health surveys done by the Department. We’ll explore indicators of tree health or decline, discuss forest pests now and looking forward, and seek a better understanding of forest insects and diseases in Vermont. Examples of drought stress, pear thrips and anthracnose may be present for observance. This program will take place in Smokey House Center’s NAMP survey area. Be prepared to walk in and around the maples. Closed-toe shoes and water suggested.
